WWDC22 - A consumer perspective.
A day before yesterday, the Apple keynote was held at Apple headquarters with influencers and developers attending it on the campus. The event started with the introduction of iOS 16 and continued with the announcement of other major software and hardware.
New lock screen experience.
The next version of iOS introduces a makeover of the lock screen with new font styles, widgets on the lock screen and the option to create several lock screen layouts as per the needs. This is the next step for Apple to introduce customisations in the iPhone software system as the users can play with different styles, colours and a wide range of wallpapers from the new wallpaper hub. The notifications will now appear from the bottom of the screen to ensure you can easily admire your new lock screen and utilise the widgets placed.
Tie to your work with Focus.
This is not all, as the new update will also introduce extended support for Focus as now users can enter different focus profiles as per their needs by simply assigning a lock screen to a particular Focus Profile. This will ensure that you are interacting with apps and messages that are assigned to the particular focus profile.
Other important updates include a new Apple Pay system with Pay later, Apple Wallet update with the ability to share keys, Apple Maps updated with more details, the ability to use Siri Shortcuts without creating a setup, the ability to undo and edit iMessage, select the subject from image and sending it without background, a new privacy tool called safety check that helps a user who has personal safety at risk due to domestic violence or intimate partner violence and much more.

The iOS 16 will come to most apple devices in the iPhone portfolio and will drop support for iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone SE (first gen), iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 6s.
iPad OS 16
The difference between iPadOS and iOS has further increased with the introduction of features like Stage Manager and other multitasking features to enhance productivity and collaborative way of working.
Weather App makes its way to iPad.
Apple has finally decided to bring its stock Weather App to iPad with all optimisations possible by utilising the larger screen. The app will provide detailed projections, user maps to check weather at certain locations and will contain beautiful animations in the entire UI and UX. Don't be too excited as the calculator app has not yet good enough to make its debut on iPad devices.
Collaborative working becomes easier.
The users can invite others through messages app to work on keynote, pages, reminders notes, numbers, and shared content across Files app. Everyone who accepts the invitation will automatically be added to the thread of all documents for which the invitation is shared. The users can also switch to FaceTime calling while working and can easily transfer the call across iPhone, iPad and Mac.
A new group working app Freeform will make its debut on iPhone, iPad and Mac later this year that will help the users with brainstorming sessions and will work as a infinite white board that can store all ideas easily. The Safari is also destined to include more features that improvise the group working as now the users can share access to particular tab group that allows the users to work live on particular tabs with live tracking support.
Extended display support.
The M1 iPad's can now utilise a monitor as extended display and can support a support a resolution of up to 6K. This means the users can utilise both screens to do different tasks without any delays. The iPad now also supports desktop class apps thus making it easy for developers to design apps for iPad that can utilise the most of the features.
The other important features of iOS 16 are also adopted and thus makes the iPad OS 16 a significant and useful update.

Apple Watch has made health tracking fun and easy for users by converting it in Ring task. The new update of WatchOS brings new watch faces, running and sleep insights and more yet the update is not out of the world and is not bringing any significant upgrades.

New watch faces are introduced to utilise the larger screen size of Apple Watch and new categories of watch faces like Lunar Watch Face and Playtime Watch Face. They are designed for people from particular communities to help them identify their festivals and for people who love to have a playtime respectively.

Apple has finally decided to remove the support of Apple Watch Series 3 from receiving next generation of WatchOS but the company is still earning some pennies as the watch is still on the shelves.

Gaming titles makes their way to Mac.
For years, the Mac users have missed the experience of gaming AAA titles but finally the Mac devices are getting two gaming titles that are widely popular amont the masses. Metal3 allows the developers to develop high graphic games for apple silicon chipsets across all Mac devices. Starting with Resident Evil: Village, and No Man's Sky (also coming to iPad Pro and iPad Air with M1) coming later this year the mac devices will make their debut in gaming world.
The cameras utilised in Mac devices are from 1990's and to cope up with the problem apple is bringing support for using iPhone cameras as webcam for the Mac users. With utilisation of software and hardware the users can further utilise the ultra wide camera and can provide the desk view while providing the front view at the same time.
Apple has decided to remove passwords for good and replace them with passkeys a new way to login using your iPhone or biometrics. This will avoid hacking of accounts as their are no password stored in any servers because they will not exist anymore.

Apple M2 Chipset
Two years ago, Apple introduced the M1 chipset for Mac devices and promised to transition the entire Mac lineup with its own chipsets. Fast forward to 2022, all Mac devices are transitioned with M1 chipset series (expect the Mac Pro) and finally the time has arrived for next generation and thus the company introduced M2 chip based on 5nm architecture.
More Transistors, better CPU and GPU performance.
The new M2 chipset consists of 20 billion transistors — 25 percent more than M1. This allows the chip to support up to 24GB of unified memory. Further, the chip provides 18% better CPU performance as compared to M1 and comes up with up to 10 cores of GPU to provide 35% better GPU performance as compared to M1.

Apple MacBook Air M2
Last year we saw MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch with M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets. The new devices had a major redesign. Following this the MacBook Air has also been updated following the same design language. The new MacBook Air has the latest M2 chipset.
New design with return of magsafe.
The new design of the most popular mac device from Apple also brings back the most preferred charging tech, "MagSafe". The device also features two thunderbolt ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack with support for high-impedance headphones. The full functional magic keyboard includes full size function keys and touch id embedded in power button.
The device also features a full sized trackpad and comes with Four-Speaker sound system and a 1080p FaceTime HD Camera.
Larger and better Liquid Retina Display.
The M2 MacBook Air replaces the old display with better 13.6 inch Liquid Retina Display and introduces the notch and thin borders just like the MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch. At 500 nits of brightness, it is also 25 percent brighter than before. In addition, the new display now supports 1 billion colors, so photos and movies look incredibly vibrant.
New charging options, pricing and other details.
A new 35 W power adapter is also introduced that contains two Type C slots and allows users to charge two devices from single adapter and a new 67W fast charging adapter is also introduced that can charge the device up to 50% within 30 minutes.
The MacBook Air M2 starts at $1,199 or INR 1,19,900 for the base 256 GB storage and 8GB Ram variant with support of 8 cores.
The 13inch MacBook Pro is also updated with M2 and is priced at $1,299 or INR 1,29,900 for the base variant. The company is also keeping the MacBook Air M1 in the portfolio priced at $999 or INR 99,900 resulting in a price hike in Indian market.
